Spanish Food

Spanish food is best enjoyed in Spain, al fresco. No matter where you are in Spain, as a general rule, you will find tastier food for far less money if you eat where the Spanish eat. If you are cooking for yourself go to the street markets which are a treasure trove of fresh, cheap and high quality local produce.

Spanish tapas can be simple or complex and include cheese, fish, eggs, vegetables, dips, canapés, and savoury pastries. A reasonable quantity of tapas can make an excellent meal.

Paella - the most famous Spanish food. Paella is a typical Spanish dish and is traditionally cooked in a "paellera" - a round flat pan with two handles, which is then put on the table. Paella is normally made using shellfish but can also be made with chicken or rabbit. A paella is very flexible so if you don’t have the exact ingredients you can substitute them for something similar. There are literally hundreds of ways to cook a paella.

Spanish Wine

Better known wines from Spain are the quality red wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, red and white wines from Penedés, white wine from Rueda, sherries from Jerez, and sparkling wine known as Cava. There are more than 50 recognized wine regions in Spain. Spain has the largest wine growing area in the world, covering a surface area in excess of 1,200,000 hectares and is the third largest producer of wine in the world. Spain exports a third of its wine production to the USA, UK and Germany.
